What Cakes Can I Make For You? | The cake journey U-turn

If you have been following my cake journey for a while, you may have noticed I have been flip flopping between cake design directions.
One minute weddings & celebrations
The next sustainable wedding cakes
And now illusion cakes
So I thought it was time to address this little heffalump in the room and set the record straight about the kind of cakes I actually make!
Why the change in direction

It’s been an odd couple of years!
I have been making cakes now for over 10 years professionally, solely focusing on wedding cakes with a smattering of celebration cakes since our daughter was born in the devil year 2020.
I went from it being my bit on the side job to my full time occupation in 2021.
Before weddings, I made sculptural cakes, cakes with intricate sugar models, alternative wedding cakes and classic contemporary designs.
Turns out parenting hasn’t been plain sailing like we imagined it would be, so in order to give our amazing micro bestie the attention she needed I stepped back from intricate and challenging cake creations and stuck with cake designs I could accurately time plan for.
Cake designs that had me working well into the night were definitely no longer viable, especially when it took 4.5 years for our daughter to actually sleep without 3+ wake-up’s.
She is now settled in a brilliant school (hurrah), finding her stride in life and I have my spark back for making more of the wonderful cake sculptures and artistic designs I have been missing.
My biggest concern has always been that I’m going to confuse my clients by not having a strong enough niche, but by doing so I have missed the point entirely.
I get just as much enjoyment from making cakes look like a bowl of ramen, as I do making a 3 tier pressed flower wedding cake or a Harry Potter celebration cake.
The diversity is what I have been missing and being able to serve a mix of different clients and briefs is amazing.
What a plonker!
What can you expect from one of my cakes?
The distinguishing feature that ties my cakes together is the attention to detail and the high quality finish I have on all my cakes.
I put the same care and love into a 3rd birthday cake as I do a wedding cake.
I use quality ingredients.
No cheap nasty buttery spreads
No crappy vanilla essence
No dirt chocolate
No cruelty eggs
I use ingredients from the South West Uk when possible, always free range eggs (ideally local), Belgian chocolate, organic milk and fair trade vanilla bean powder
Sustainable cake making practices
I made a pledge a number of years back to try my hardest to make my business as sustainable as possible.
I limit my plastic usage and am forever trying to find ways to lower usage.
No plastic dowel, no plastic in my cake boxes, reusable cling film and I recycle any plastic packaging I have to use.
I also plant a tree for every order I have to help lower my carbon footprint.

What type of cakes do you make?
I specialise in artistic, sculptural and high end cake design. Whether that’s for a birthday, celebration, wedding or corporate event.
Illusion cakes
I have a passion for illusion cakes!
They are so flipping fun and I love how challenging and mind boggling they are.
I make a monthly illusion cake to try my hand at different techniques and am building an online community of cake lovers along the way.

3d sculptural cakes
3d cakes are there to be a show stopper at an event. You can’t help but be amazed at seeing a gigantic or mini version of an everyday item.
They give me a heap of joy and I can’t wait to see what challenges you all throw at me!

Celebration cakes
Whether simplistic, hand painted, or full of sugar models in all shapes and designs.
I specialise in fondant cakes and ganache finishes. Buttercream isn’t my jam. Or cream!

Wedding cakes
Alternative, classic, floral, painted! As long as it’s creative and beautiful, I am a happy girl!
I don’t make ugly wedding cakes!
I will only be taking on a very small amount of Saturday weddings moving forward but for once in my cake life mid week weddings are a go!

Corporate Cakes
A batch of epic bakes with logos or a custom cake for a standout celebration focal point!
No event is complete without some form of cake.
(Architecture model, flour bag, biscuits)

Cupcakes
Custom and unique with intricate sugar work or classic and gorgeous using seasonal ingredients. Both yummy and beautiful and a great addition to a celebration.

Biscuits
Painted or piped. They are all gorgeous! Perfect as wedding favours or extra treats at a birthday party.
And who doesn’t love dunking a delicious shortbread!

So I hope in a round about way that’s cleared up the confusion with what I’m actually making these days!
Long and short of it is -
I love making cakes
I love it when they challenge me
I love it when they are all different
I love the joy they bring to my clients
If you have stuck around for all these U-turns then thank you a gazillion 💕
Much love
Tash x
