Our boy Tod and a Devon road trip.

He may be a slow old boy, but just take a look at that shine!  Our beloved 1971 Morris minor took us on a little trip to Devon this month to celebrate the husbands Birthday.  A little bitter sweet perhaps, as it may well be the last journey to the West we take with him before he finds a new home and as he was our wedding and honeymoon car we will be particularly sad to see this little one go.  

 

 

 The glorious British spring sunshine even allowed us to take the top down,  shocker! 

 

We stayed in a sweet guest house in South Brent with beautiful views across the Devon countryside.  We were made to feel completely at home and any place that offers a free cream tea (with 6 scones I may add) and that has a roll top bath is a winner in my book.  Tony was a fantastic host and cooked a mean breakfast using all local ingredients.  Highly recommended and definitely somewhere we would stay again.

We actually visited Brixham at the beginning of the month to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary, but felt it deserved a proper visit this time around, not just in the dark and power walking down the hill to keep warm.  It didn't disappoint and like most of Devon is a stunning part of the country.  

 

 

It was here we found The Curious Kitchen.

 

So, we have realised that we tend to pick places based on the font of their establishment and the decor they have chosen.  Like a moth to a flame!  

 

Full of industrial details and a blimmin amazing menu, this place did not disappoint.  The intention of getting a quick iced coffee before later munching on some seafood by the harbour was quickly overlooked by some mouth watering cakes.  The orange and spelt cake was to die for!  I'm not even convinced I know what spelt is, but oh lordy it was delicious!

 

All their cakes are made in house, they make a range of homemade condiments, the coffee has been created by the owner into his own special blend (even treated ourselves to a bag of beans) and all the ingredients are locally sourced.  Win!
